The answer is "NO", like some people before me have said. All the other things that people have suggested may apply to most of the lines, but not all of them. Especially pressure (one of the most popular answers). Pressure does not make a polar bear white people! Polar bears have translucent fur that appears white because of the reflection of the sun coming off of the snow. In fact, none of the popular answers to the riddle fit the first line very well other than the "trick question" theory.
