I have a 4 year old she has long hair and it is very curly. The problem is that she is very tender h

i tried the detangling shampoo's and conditioners and i have tried the hot water. As soon as i go to touch her hair she starts to scream. I can't comb her hair, i use a soft tooth brush. I don't know what to do. I need some serious help

With her hair you'll have to take double or triple the time to comb it. As for her screaming, there's nothing you can do about that. Eventually, she'll realise that there's nothing to scream about.

Make sure that you comb her hair in small sections. Hold each section at the root (press the roots down) with the side of your palm, and use the rest of your hair to hold the part of the length you're combing. Or, work your way towards the roots. Comb a bit of the top first. Then start combing from about an inch below that. Make sure you're holding the hair tighly, just underneath the place where you're combing. Hold tighly, or else a hair (or all) will yank at the rot and she'll feel it. Just keep progressing until you've got her full length combed. THe roots will be the hardest part. Once you're there, comb verrrrrry slowly. Hold down as much of the root section as possible, but keep in mind that you'll eventually get to that part of the root that you're combing.

If anyone suggests that you put a numbing solution (like that which is used for baby's gums), don't follow it.

You're very welcome. Using a leave-in conditioner is a good idea, but because she's so young I'd be wary of what the prolonged use of the chemicals would do. I don't believe anything stronger than Johnson's Baby shampoo should be used in children's hair. %26lt;g%26gt; Report It

Btw, when I said use the rest of the hair to comb, I meant "rest of your hand". Sorry! Looks like you figured out what I meant, though. Report It

This was awesome advice. My little sister was the same. We had to chase her to comb her hair. Now, she is an 8 year old with a huge head of hair and we just drop her off at the hair dresser and pick her up with a lollypop when they're done. :o) Report It

Have you tried a leave in spray conditioner? Those smooth out and detangle your hair after your out of the shower and you're all dry.

Here are the one's I have tried that work pretty well: Tresemme's Anti-Breakage Leave in Conditioner, Pantene Pro V Light Leave-In Conditioner, Thermasilk Leave-in Conditioner, and Mane 'N Tail Barrier Spray.

I think the Mane "n Tail would be best for really thick hair :)

Is it cause her head hurts? Has she had any head injuries before? I know a spot in my head when someone else touches I yell cause of the pain, cause that spot in my head has very little skin so I could feel my bone.. Try going to a doctor or possibly even a dermatologist.

try combing her hair with lots of conditioner when it is wet,in the bath and try making it fun ,if her head is sore ask her if it when it is only when it is being brushed ,if her scalp is dry try putting a little baby oil on her scalp before she goes to bed then wash it off in the morning ,this will help if it scaled or dry ,when hair is curly it is sore to comb ,as so tangly, hope i have been of help !
