They say the answer is no because they are only answering "Can you guess the riddle?" and the answer to that is no. It is not asking you what the actual thing is only if you can answer it and the answer to that is no.

Okay this is really easy. The only reason it's tricky is because it is misleading. It gives the impression that you are supposed to guess the thing that makes all of these things happen (polar bears white, turn pancakes brown...) but then the very last line asks a question, "Can you answer this Riddle?"

That is a yes or no question. So the answer to the question is No, you cannot answer this riddle.

The reason little kids get it right is because they don't remember the whole riddle, only the last few lines...they hear a yes/no question they say no. Voila! Graduates have issues with it because they overanalyzed the riddle.

Look at the last line in the riddle. It says can you guess the riddle? The answer to that would be no if you didn't know it.

It doesn't really make sense if kindergarteners know this. I think that might be a lie. I didn't know what champagne was in kindergarten!

The answer is no, because there is not one thing that can fill every part of the question. why is it that 84% of kindergarten students get it right is because they would give up and say no i cant figure it out and therefore be right, but most harvard students and their "higher" education are incapable of admiting defeat.
